I am a native English speaker with 16 years experience teaching English as a foreign language. During my teaching career, I have taught hundreds of private students and currently have a number of students, aged from 3 years to adult, including teenagers preparing for examinations required for entry to university. In addition to this I have worked in several private academies where the students have been of all ages and many working towards cambridge exams PET, FCE and CAE. Whilst working at Isabell International School in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, I was solely responsible for every aspect with the English Department. During the summer months over the last six years, I have worked at several Summer Schools as part of the teaching team. I have been teaching English online for the last 6 months. I like to use a variety of resources including course books and online interactive materials. Some adults have required everyday conversation and these sessions, based on dialogue and role-play, have been tailor made to their individual needs. I have also taught several groups of Chinese students in Almunecar, Spain, and these classes were geared specifically to the restaurant business. I value highly the elicitation of answers rather than rote learning. I believe in the importance of making each lesson interesting, varied and fun, while ensuring that the basic language skills: speaking; listening; reading; writing, as well as: grammar; vocabulary; pronunciation are covered. I am an independent, hardworking and reflective person who enjoys a challenge. I use my initiative when teaching to enable me to be flexible and adaptable. I am friendly and approachable and this enables me to communicate effectively with both my peers and with students. I believe that humour is a great tool in the teaching and learning process. I take a great interest in people which allows me to be open and this encourages openness in return, allowing the teaching and learning process to be successful. In 2002, I carried out an intensive one month CELTA course, at Sussex Downs College, Eastbourne, and gained a distinction. In addition to this I hold a first class Bachelor of Science Degree. Having lived in Spain for 16 years, I am a competent Spanish speaker.
Hi, My Name is Jared. I'm a native English teacher from New Zealand and I have been working in education for over 10 years. I hold a TESOL certificate for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. More importantly, my experience includes over 10,000 hours of online English classes and I have taught in both the academic and outdoor education sectors. Teaching is something I love so much because not only can I teach from my experiences, I can also learn a lot from my student's experiences. Currently, I am living and working in South America, where I myself am a language student. My style is heavily based on conversational English with an emphasis on teaching pronunciation and vocabulary in fun and interesting ways.
Hello! My name is Mr. Kat Rogan. I am a native English speaker from the United States and I have been a professional language trainer for over 14 years for all age groups and levels of learning. I started teaching English in China at Dalian Maritime University in 2006. Since that time I have traveled to many countries, and have met and talked to just about every nationality you can think of. As and traveler, educator, and avid learner, the biggest thing I can say I have discovered about myself during this time: I really love languages and cultures. For me, learning languages and about people and their heritage is the "spice of life." This is what truly drives me to be a better person, keep moving forward, and improve at all levels of my life - every day. It's interesting, during these travels and experiences of the past decade-and-a-half, I have learned how to say basic concepts and greetings in at least 10 languages, which is a lot of fun and a big talking point in my day to life. People often ask me what my favorite language is. And after English, of course, I would usually say, it would have to be. 2. Chinese 3. Spanish 4. Thai 5. Japanese 6. Italian 7. Russian And more. (don't forget my adopted brother from Portugal - what's up Duarte) There are many languages! And really love to talk about them! But, at the top of my list is Chinese. I spend a lot of time practicing Chinese. Being a 4000-year-old civilization, there are endless amounts of wisdom, knowledge and culture to be found in this language. So, for me, it's a lifetime journey/mission to understand more about this language, culture, and people. I also love Spanish. Born and raised in the United States, Spanish is my second language. I studied Spanish in high school and university, but I know I need to improve. Though I can understand quite a bit of what is being said in Spanish, my speaking does need some practice. Spanish is spoken quite quickly. So, I know how much I need to improve. I also know how important it is to keep practicing my speaking ability with Spanish, as with any language. Though I am not too bad at speaking languages, I do know the feeling of not being able to speak at the level I would like. So I keep trying to learn new methods and systems of learning. And I really like to learn more about people, and their cultures. This is why I love learning languages. And this is also why I really love my job as a language trainer, teacher, or coach. So I hope to make your acquaintance and have many lessons with you. Kat Rogan Qualifications & Experience My education encompasses a long career as a news reporter and journalist as a Mass Communication student from the University of Utah. I also have a degree in Business Management from Weber State University. My master's education is in Multi-Media Film, MFA. I specialize in all forms of professional communication in business, interviewing, writing, examinations, basic conversation, and kid's phonics training. And I am TEFL certified to teach children. Having been a language trainer and learner for 14 years, I have taught thousands of students from around the world. In my experience, I have developed dedicated lesson planning systems, specifically designed for the student depending on their needs. Interestingly, I have found many ESL students with difficulties reaching their true potential. I have also found traditional models of learning to be rather rigid and outdated for progressive thought in the high-paced technologically-driven communication world we live in today. These issues are very important when it comes to speaking at high levels or high-pressure situations. My system brings together the best learning programs into one comprehensive lesson planning system and is adjustable to each specific need and goal of the learner. Some of my classes have helped my students to pass entry exams, get great jobs, get into great universities, succeed at all levels of speaking, writing, and communication for professional and interpersonal use all while having fun. My classes are fun, and I really love teaching that's why I still do it after all these years. Aloha! My name is Malia and I'm a native English tutor from the United States. I was born and raised in the beautiful islands of Hawaii, but I've traveled all over the world (40 countries and counting) and I've studied many languages during my travels, including Japanese, French, Spanish and Turkish. I received my CELTA certificate to teach English to adults and I've taught in language schools, private schools and universities, as well as individual students and executives looking to improve their general or business English. In the business world, I have personal experience working in a variety of fields: retail sales and management, operations, human resources, accounting, legal, communications/PR and as an Executive Assistant to the CEO of a nonprofit. I specialize in conversation classes to improve your fluency and expand your vocabulary. I believe that the best way to learn a language is through topics that are engaging and fun so we will often work from material relating to your interests or hobbies, emails or situations from your work, role plays you might encounter traveling, videos like TED Talks, or from topics in the news. If you've got a job interview or work presentation coming up, I'm happy to help you prepare and practice for it. Although you will get some corrections while speaking during class, I find that it's usually best to focus on error correction at the end of a session, so that it doesn't hinder your fluency. My goal is to help you to become confident and comfortable using English in your everyday life. I'm looking forward to meeting you! =)
