Did you study English for a long time in school, but haven’t used it much since? Do you feel like you can read and listen very well, but when it comes time to speak you can’t express your thoughts? I know it’s hard to truly be yourself in your second language, and I’m here to help by offering friendly conversation practice with crucial corrections and suggestions. I'm a stand up comedian, and I want to help you be confident while speaking English. Because I have a lot of experience with public speaking, I can help you choose the right words and delivery for your next speech or presentation. I had a career in brand development in the past, so if you're learning English for business, I can relate to your stressful, busy lifestyle. I want our lessons to be fun and funny! If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give me as much advance notice as possible! If you don't show up to your lesson, I'll be waiting 15 minutes to see if you are just running late. I prefer the student pay me for this missed time.

The atmosphere of my lessons is relaxed, comfortable, and professional. You will do at least 70% of the talking. You’ll gain confidence from our lessons, and this will encourage you to practice your English in public without fear. Most lessons will include the following components: 1. “Small talk:” A social conversation about, for example, your recent weekend activities. 2. Review of our previous lesson, if any. 3. Pronunciation exercise: Reading aloud from a short text. 4. Main activity: We'll use a text, video, or audio sample as the vehicle to learn the new and reinforce the old. 5. Closing: Review today's lesson and plan for next lesson. At our first lesson, we’ll find out a little about each other. We’ll talk about your needs and interests in any special vocabulary, reading and writing skills, and speaking and listening proficiency. I will ask you to estimate your level of proficiency now, and what level you want to achieve in the next three months. Areas of specialty: Vocabulary enrichment, business/professional English, writing skills, effective meetings and presentations, taking an advanced student to the next level. I hope I’ve shared enough information to help you decide if we might be a good match. If you have any questions before you make your decision, please send me a message.

I began teaching `7 years ago, to younger students at my local church, everything from basic English to math, and from there I helped tutor autistic students at my school, and then went on to teach younger kids at an after school camp. However I really began teaching language specifically over the past 3 years living in Ecuador, where I taught Ecuadorian students English as well as English students Spanish, I have also taught over 160 hr of English online. I take a holistic approach to learning and teaching a new language, meaning that I do not believe there is only one best way to learn a langue, but I do believe that there is a cretin order of operations. What I like to help students with who have very little skill levels at first, is to identify the key words, the words which are most common, and the words that link words together. From there I will help my students with learning the most used verbs and the basic conjugation of those verbs, with different charts and pictures to aid in the memorization. The more words and phrases my students learn I will begin to go more in-depth with basic grammar, and common styles of conversation. I always try to correct my students when they make grammatical or pronunciation mistakes, so that they don't make a habit out of it. Conversing with my students at this point is extremely beneficial to their progress and speed of learning, because through conversing in a language it is one of the fastest ways to learn and memorize it, especially when you have a dedicated teacher to converse with and give you constructive feedback. I will talk with my students about themselves, day to day activities and what they find interesting, challenging, or exciting, I believe the more I can make the learning process fun and interactive for my students the faster and more efficiently they will learn the language, so I try to avoid topics that will bore or discourage them. My goal is to not only be a teacher to my students but also an encouraging supportive friend.

I’m Kevin Palmer. in 2002, at my first teaching job, I had a student named Ning. Ning was wonderful. She was intelligent, friendly, and she worked hard. Every day she studied English textbooks for 4 hours! She tried to remember 50 new vocabulary words every day! But, after 6 months of hard work, she still could not speak. Sadly, this was true for all of the students in the class. I felt terrible. So I asked other teachers for help. But they had the same problem.. very few of their students improved either. That’s when I realized something was wrong– something is wrong with normal English teaching methods. I wanted to help all of the happy, friendly, intelligent, wonderful students like Ning– and I decided I would find an answer. I would find a way to help my students speak English powerfully. For many years, I studied books about English teaching. I constantly tried new methods in my classes. I read research studies. Eventually, I found incredible new methods. I was so excited! Immediately I began to use these new methods in my classes… and every day I worked hard to IMPROVE these methods. After several more years of testing and improving, I finally found the answer! My students began to improve their speaking. They learned to speak, not just read and write! And even better - they loved my classes and they were happy! I was excited! I loved seeing my students improve. My classes were full of excited students! Now, I can help students everywhere in the world… and now I can help you. I’m so grateful to be your teacher. I promise I will always do my best to help you speak excellent English. I will teach you to speak English fluently so you can avoid embarrassing mistakes with pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. I will teach you to speak English powerfully to get a better job, or even save your job. I will help you make international friends. I understand your problems and I will help you speak English fluently! Welcome!

Hello Friend! I hope you're having a great day! My name is Brent and I am from Santa Rosa, California. My hometown is in the California wine country, a beautiful place with outstanding weather. I have lived in Japan for thirteen years. I lived in Osaka for one year and then moved to Tokyo. I came to Japan because I am a poet and I love haiku. Japan is a wonderful country that has changed me in many positive ways. And the sushi...wow. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Literature/Poetry with a Minor in Education from the University of California, Santa Cruz. I am currently pursuing my Masters degree in Teaching English as a Second Language. My interests include haiku, hiking, comedy, studying Japanese, reading, food, traveling, baseball, and music. I am a very curious person and I enjoy learning about others' hobbies and interests. As a language learner myself, I understand the challenges involved with learning languages, which helps me address student concerns and needs in a constructive way. I teach all kinds of English, including general conversation, business English, TOEIC, TOEFL, Eiken, and kids lessons. I teach a wide range of ages, from two months old to eighty years old. Let me customize English lessons for you. We can use any books, newspapers, movies, songs, or other learning materials you like. I can also create original materials just for you! I love my students' English. There is no bad English. No one has bad English. If you can say "Hello.", that's great. If you can say "Nice to meet you.", that's great. The key is to own your English because it's yours! It's all about enjoying studying and getting better every day. One of my favorite haiku poets is Kobayashi Issa and this is one of his best poems. 蝸牛そろそろ登れ富士の山
Katatsumuri sorosoro nobore Fuji no yama Climb Mount Fuji, O snail, but slowly, slowly. This haiku has many meanings but one of my favorites is that Issa is telling even a snail, which is very slow, to slow down and enjoy climbing Fuji. It's the same with learning. Learning a language is like climbing Mt. Fuji. It's challenging and it takes time. Of course we want to improve every day but we have to make sure we look around and really enjoy the beautiful scenery, we should enjoy the new language we learn. Being a poet, I like to share my love of language with students so that they can experience more fully the joys of studying English. I am a people person and I use humor and a student-oriented approach to create a fun, comfortable learning environment. Your goals are my goals. I hope to meet you soon!
