Hello! My name is Bianca Carvalho, I'm from Brazil and I speak Portuguese (native), English (fluent) and Mandarin. My passion for teaching stems from the love of traveling the world and learning new languages! I lived in China for 2 years learning mandarin and teaching English to Chinese children. I've been to the United States multiple times to further understand the English language, and become fully immersed in the culture provided. I speak English fluently and consider it as much a part of me as my native tongue, Portuguese. I would like to help others realize their dreams of becoming fluent in either Portuguese, English, or both!
I believe that the best way to learn a language is to be fully immersed in the culture. I try my best to encourage all of my students to watch Brazilian TV shows and soap operas, as well as to try their hand at cooking Brazilian cuisine
I adapt to each individual student’s needs: If the student is learning Portuguese to travel, the class will have more of an informal/colloquial feel to it, focusing on rapid basic survival Portuguese. If the student plans to live in Brazil, the class will use PDF books as a base, and also contain exercises and essays about interesting topics (i.e. science, politics, sports, nature, etc. . .). Finally, if the student is interested in Portuguese for business purposes, the focus of the class will be on Economic and Business oriented diction.I have acquired quite the arsenal of stories throughout my journey in the United States, and then later in China. These experiences have made it possible for me to see eye to eye with all of my students, whether they are beginners or Advanced. I love teaching children, but nothing beats seeing an adult who has never learned another language before, conquer that feat and use what I taught them in everyday life!
Learning can be a lot of fun as well as a door to new friendship, which I love! :)
