Sobre mí

Hello! Hola! Ni Hao!

My name is Trey and I am a twenty-seven year old TESOL-certified teacher. I am from San Diego, CA, USA and earned a Bachelors degree in International Affairs with a minor in Cross-Cultural Communications from the George Washington University.  I have 2+ years of ESL teaching experience in Peru, Taiwan, & the USA with all ages/levels.

My teaching approach as someone who personally has learned multiple foreign languages (I studied Spanish formally starting at age 10 all the way through university abroad in Spain) is to base the grammar or phonics in real-world conversation: empowering the student to express themselves in English is critical in order to be understood by native speakers. Real people don’t talk like textbooks! Also as a musician in my free-time, I personally love doing music activities with students like “fill-in-the-missing-lyrics” worksheets; music is fantastic listening/idiomatic practice! Creating activities and lessons plans for me is a wonderful way to make learning English fun & interactive.

Ultimately my goal as a teacher is to inspire students to love learning English language & culture; learning a foreign language is like opening a window into the wider world. When you learn a new language, you are also learning about a new culture. All of my courses focus on empowering you to speak like a real, native speaker! We will target your individual goals: if you want to focus on listening/speaking, check out the class ‘Learn English via Music!’ 101; or if you want to focus on reading/writing, check out ‘Learn English via News!’ 101. I hope to teach you soon.

Complimentary “Coffee Talk” Class: This first 30 minute lesson is always FREE. “Coffee talk” is meant for the teacher to get to know you in a natural conversation! In English only, of course ☺
